ESTABLISHED:  Established by the Board of Selectmen at a regular Board of Selectmen's meeting, November 15, 1982.  The committee was "reactivated": as recommended by the Guilford Foundation. The Committee was reappointed with terms established September 15, 2014.


CHARGE/DUTIES:  The purpose of the Committee is to advise the Board of Selectmen on policies for the use of the Town Green and any proposed improvements to the Town Green. The Committee shall further advise the Board of Selectmen on the use of gifts, bequests or other donations received by the Town for the benefit of the Town Green. Under the general supervision of the Board of Selectmen, the Committee shall be entrusted with the preservation of the current natural state of the Town Green and the monuments located thereon, in such a manner as to ensure that the Town Green remains the focal point of the Town.


ELECTED/APPOINTED:  A 9 member committee appointed by the Board of Selectmen.


MEMBERSHIP:   Members should be representatives of the Guilford Foundation, Preservation Alliance, Garden Clubs, and Chamber of Commerce, Historic District Commission, Keeping Society, Dorothy Whitfield Society and one member at large.  In addition the Tree Warden and Parks and Recreation Director serve as liaisons.


LENGTH OF TERM:  Four year terms.


MEETING DATE/TIME/PLACE:  Regular meetings are held every other month.  Special meetings are held seasonally and as needed.


EXPERIENCE AND/OR INTEREST NECESSARY/PREFERRED TO BE A MEMBER:  Members should have a knowledge of the community's preferences in types of public parks and/or expertise in managing land for public use or landscaping of the same.
